2025: Mixed Media Painting - Instructor Kathleen Scoggin
We will explore using acrylic and other mixed media to create abstract paintings. Work may be more realistic if desired. Abstract design will be approached in multiple ways. This will include layering, glazing using transparent and opaque paints, collage, stencils and other mixed media to develop the painting. A variety of methods will be used to apply the acrylic paint. Design and Composition will be explored as part of the process. Each student will be encouraged to develop their own abstract style. Watercolor paper, board or canvas may be used as substrates.
Kathleen is a mixed water media and collage artist using nature as her inspiration. She uses various techniques to create an exciting environment that draws the viewer into the painting. She enjoys creating her own interpretation of a subject, adding unusual colors and shapes to add atmosphere and mystery.
Post career, Kathleen took extensive coursework in Fine Arts, Design and Art History at Portland State University & Oregon State University, and numerous workshops with nationally recognized art educators. She has beem a board member of the Coachella Vallye Watercolor Society and the Palm Springs Art Museum Artists Council. Finally, she has been a water media and collage workshop instructor for a number of organizations.
Finally, Kathleen has participated in many juried shows and won many awards for her work.
